Smartphones are pretty amazing. They can help with just about anything – including managing gutter-related tasks if you can believe that! These apps, in particular, will give you an idea of when it’s time to repair, replace, or clean your gutters. Some of them will also help you with some other home improvement tasks.
Here are three apps we found interesting.
Roof Area/Rainflow & Gutter Calculator
This app is useful for determining whether or not your gutters are working as effectively as they could be. If they’re not, it may be time to get them repaired or replaced.
This $1.99 app is available for the iPhone. This is a UK app, however, so everything is on the metric system. You’ll need to make your own conversions. However, it will make recommendations about the size of the gutters you should have. If you find yours aren’t up to snuff you’ll know to make the call so that you can get a free estimate on some new ones. Of course, leaky gutters can also cause an overflow, which is something that seamless gutters can help you with.
Gutter Inspection Sheet
This app is free on iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackberry, Playbook, and Windows Mobile and is geared towards the gutter contracting company. It provides companies like us the opportunity to go paperless by allowing us to provide estimates on paperless forms via their app.
While it sounds interesting – and it appears many different contractors are using the app – we’re not totally sure it’s right for us but we think the concept is certainly interesting. I’m sure there will come a time when the bulk of our customers demand paperless estimates but for now most are just fine with traditional paper estimate forms.
This app will help you keep track of all kinds of home improvement and home maintenance projects like cleaning gutters, checking leaky faucets, changing out filters and replacing smoke alarms. It’s available for the iPhone for just $0.99.
Of course, if you have gutter guards you won’t have to clean your gutters as often, which might mean making some happy adjustments to your homeowner calculator:)
If you are a dedicated do-it-yourselfer you can also find a number of different applications that can actually help you make calculations on your own gutters. This includes the Flo Hydraulic Calculator, which helps you calculate gutter flow among many things. The Fluid Mechanics Calculator and the Handyman Calculator also help with various calculations.
After taking a look at these apps we’re inspired to consider creating one ourselves! For now, however, we’ll stick to installing seamless gutters and leaf guards for our customers in St. Petersburg, Largo, and the rest of the Tampa area.
